The disturbances have intensified during Thursday night, although there have also been some weekends. In any case, the red alarms have occurred after last week, when a group of young people hit on Friday night the bar manager Dom Luis and had to be taken to the hospital. On Thursday there were also incidents and many hotel owners denounced the inadequate attitude of many customers, including the robberies. According to the hotel owners, the problems arise, above all, when they draw the attention of customers, either because they do not respect the COVID-19 standards within the accommodation, or because of inadequate attitudes. This property is located between Calle San Nicolás and Plaza del Castillo.
Many bars in the Old Party have joined the call, among others, the establishments of San Gregorio, San Nicolás, Estafeta, Nabarrería and Plaza del Castillo. Several hospitality associations and the Association of Merchants of the Old Town have also shown their support for the holding of the lockdown. The association of hotel owners understands that, since there are no arrival hours, it is time to relax the rules: they ask that night time be opened and that it can be consumed inside the bar, so that citizenship would disperse during the night and in the neighborhoods.
An old problem
The disturbances of recent weeks have been more unique and extraordinary, perhaps the time of COVID-19 has something to do with them, and they may be other reasons, but, as many associations in the neighborhood have denounced, the situation comes from a long way and has to do with the characteristic that has been given to the Casco Viejo de Pamplona in the last twenty years, or more, of making it the most important night entertainment center of the city.
The City Council of Pamplona has been at the forefront of UPN for the last decades, apart from the mayor of Joseba Asiron in the previous legislature, and for years many taverns were opened in the Casco Viejo and many other small shops closed. Neighborhood associations have on many occasions called for the Casco Viejo to be declared a saturated area for the opening of accommodation, and since the last legislature no more bars can be opened in the Central City district.
Live in the Old Town! The platforms or other associations have repeatedly denounced the noise, garbage and incidents that occur on Thursdays and weekends in different areas of the neighborhood. Last Friday morning, for example, Castle Square looked more like any Sanfermin morning than a September day.
To denounce the situation of the Casco Viejo, Live in the Casco Viejo! The association has called for a mobilization before the City Hall for the next day 16 at 20:00.
