Trade unions call on the Department of Education to "respect the decision of Castejón College"
  • A delegation from the School Council of the College of Castejón explained this Wednesday in the Parliament of Navarra the situation and needs of the center and the decision to abandon the English PAI program. Previously, outside the ELA, LAB, Steilas, Afapna, ANPE, CCOO and UGT trade unions have concentrated in front of the Basque Government.

The unions have recalled the center's arguments: that the program in English is not viable due to its pedagogical structure; that there is no reference curriculum; that the teaching staff has to simplify its content; that the students acquire less competencies in the subjects taught in English; and that the number of students with outstanding subjects increases, among other things.

They have also stressed that this centre has certain sociological characteristics, as there are many immigrants and almost half of the families have another language of communication that is not Spanish, so the English programme is a major obstacle for them.

These reasons are not enough, and last year the Castejón school was prevented from leaving the programme on the grounds of technical errors in the process. This year, it seems that the Education Department of Carlos Gimeno has taken a similar path, as he has told the school that it must guarantee the possibility of studying in the PAI program.

That is why the trade unions have asked you to take responsibility for it and, while respecting the decision of the centre, to allow you to leave the programme in English.
