GuraSOS: "José Ignacio Asensio lies"
  • On 11 May, the Committee on Petitions of the European Parliament sent a note stating that it is continuing to investigate the incinerator in San Sebastian. On the contrary, on 28 May, Asensio published his opposite position, alleging that the committee had rejected GuraSOS’s request. "Asensio lies and manoeuvres scandalously; sometimes from absolute ignorance, others from the obvious incompetence on the issue of the incinerator of Zubieta," says GuraSOS, who on this occasion also reproached him "disrespect" towards the European institutions. It has also announced that it has already begun the procedures for bringing the matter to the European Parliament.

As GuraSOS explains in his note, this is the official document he has received from Europe so far: “The European Parliament’s Committee on Petitions continues to investigate the matters requested by GuraSOS in its various directions. The Commission shall agree on the most appropriate action for such a request, on the basis of its assessment.” These phrases are written in English in a single paragraph of the “conclusions” section, dated 11 May.

Asensio lies "

The group of fathers and mothers against the incinerator of San Sebastian was surprised by the statements made on 28 May by the Environment Deputy of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, José Ignacio Asensio, stating that the European Parliament's Committee on Petitions has "rejected" what was requested by GuraSOS. "Asensio lies or is showing great ignorance. It is not so much a question of the resolution as of the response to a request, as the Commission has not dealt with the matter at the meetings held so far. This is a procedure that was approved at the time. It is therefore a note addressed to the members of that committee to discuss the matter at a future meeting. Since last April, the European Parliament Commission has only been working on COVID-19 issues."

As explained by GuraSOS, this European communiqué refers to a preliminary report: The Environment Directorate of the European Commission (EC) and the Environment Director are investigating the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa on the incinerator in San Sebastian. Therefore, the note we bring at the beginning of this article states that "GuraSOS continues to investigate the requested issues".

GuraSOS maintains that Asensio's statements on this matter demonstrate "a very serious manipulation of public opinion and the media" and also "a huge lack of respect for the institutions of the European community". "Asensio lies and manoeuvres in a scandalous way; sometimes from absolute ignorance, others with the obvious incompetence on the issue of the Zubieta incinerator", he added. Mr GuraSOS has announced that he has initiated proceedings to bring the issue of Asensio's statements to the European Parliament and has called for his resignation.
