We, too, want to decide

Congratulations to the Durangarras who have had the opportunity to express their opinion on an inherited urban megaproject in urban matters. Not a few people have been encouraged to participate in the organised consultation, given the policy that some political parties are pursuing against the direct participation of citizens. We are aware that the outcome of the consultation is not decisive in its entirety, as it is up to the institutions to take on this task, but it is certainly a significant example when we talk about citizen participation. The process that has taken place in Durango allows it to be carried out in other countries and, in the not too distant future, it should be applied as soon as possible in cases of controversy and controversy.

"[Errenteria] The reason why green areas are destroyed is the legacy of the previous government, the General Plan approved almost 20 years ago. This plan was carried out without the participation of the citizens"

In Orereta the situation is not good. In recent years, we have lost more and more natural green areas under cement. Currently, projects are being carried out that will destroy two natural green areas; another is intended to be installed in the area of a marsh where the warehouses of CAMPSA were located, although the City Hall itself acknowledges in its reports that it can flood. In addition, in the Pontika neighborhood they have been waiting for about 30 years for a park, the City Hall has committed to this, although it has not yet been done, since in the neighborhood a car parking will be installed. If these projects are carried out, as well as losing natural spaces, our people will become increasingly drowned and pollution of all kinds will increase.

Orereta also governs the parties that rule Durango. Unfortunately, however, for the Orerese, the road to consultation is closed, because the Government has said that it has shielded these projects, although urban nature parks have been proposed as an alternative. The cause of the destruction of the green areas is the legacy of the previous government, the General Plan adopted almost 20 years ago. This plan was carried out without the participation of the public and the implementation period ended in 2012; it has been nine years since the law established that it should be renewed, but they have not wanted it.

From here we want to make it clear that we too want to participate in and decide on the development of our people. It is not worth saying that they are different situations, because at the end of the day it is a question of will, to give the word to real citizenship among the options to see what we prefer. If it has been done in Durango, why not in Orereta?
