The eviction of Lake Prao de la Paul in Laguardia has forced the administrations to evict the invasive species and thus protect the space destined for the indigenous people. The decision was taken by the Provincial Council of Álava, in cooperation with the Basque Government.
According to the Consistorio in a note, the measure aims to extract from the Prao lagoon of the Paul invasive exotic fauna, such as American crab and allochthonous fish. Specimens will also be drawn from the red ear turtle to "improve the ecological status of birds and other wetland fauna". In addition to invasive American crabs, the aim is to find tents and turtles capable of killing off living things in the pond area. The latter have been taken to the pond from many homes as pets and compete with the leper or galapagos turtles that live there by means of food.
Therefore, the lake will be evacuated almost entirely, but without endangering the life of the fauna and birds.
