According to Abotsanitz, the prohibition of continuing the search for the rifles of 1936 has been imposed by the mayor of Hondarribia, Txomin Sagarzazu, and the entrance of the fort of Guadalupe has been suspended during the second day of excavations.

As explained, a Abotsanitz councilor and historian Aitzol Arroyo worked at the first working session to document and report on what they were finding, but the person responsible for the fortress door informed them that the following day they could not enter because “the mayor had ordered it”, apparently for security reasons.

Abotsanitz believes that the City of Hondarribia has prohibited them from entering the area because he wants to report excavations later and for them it is a “big mistake”: “We are making historical memory and society has to be an active part,” they say.
