ELA and LAB have proposed an indefinite strike against the ERE proposed by MFS Sintering, a company that manufactures parts for the automotive sector in Trapagaran (Bizkaia). The company, which has been suspended for one year and has accumulated a debt of 24 million euros, has been in liquidation since June, according to the Commercial Court of Bizkaia. PKF Attest’s insolvency manager has announced an ERE that would affect 104 employees.
The unions, led by ELA and LAB, denounce the decision as “unjustified” and reiterate that they will start an indefinite strike if the measure is not rejected. In 2023, the workers managed to stop an ERE thanks to the mobilization of the unions.
The LAB warned in 2023 about the possible interest of investment funds for the purchase of the plant. MFS, part of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, has received 3.2 million euros in support from the Basque Government since 2018. In 2022, it had a turnover of 14.3 million and a loss of three million.
