Morning hope, desperate in the afternoon

Sometimes, in the morning, desperate. I recognize that I have had breakfast this morning of Sunday in my throat. When I started reading the news and you see the photo that accompanied the news on page 10, I made a “hand of congratulations.” Because yet, in my ignorance, I have not understood why the discovery of Irulegi has caused so much vote: did you think that the Basques would come down from a spaceship a few centuries ago, or that our ancestors were different from the other human beings of that time, that is, that there was a certain genetic inability to write?

Well, my surprise is that I've started reading the news, and I've tried to find the word officialdom in the text written by the journalist. In vain. That didn't exist there. In that desperate study work, the miracle of technology has sent me an entire manifesto from a friend. “We want to live in Euskera”, “we do not want to link Euskera with concern”, “we want to go shopping and speak in Euskera without worries, fears or embarrassment”, “because Euskera is not a jewel to keep in museums”, “it is time to take a step forward”, and also similar, but “officiality” does not appear anywhere. What does this word of origin have lately? Have we not learned very well in Nafarroa Garaia what makes us not to have the official Basque in the last eight years?

Finally, I have seen when this “historic” popular mobilisation will take place: 10 June. What a coincidence! After the elections! And then I have started — I have never been too shabby at all — to understand the objective of that demonstration convened by private individuals: to facilitate the way to EH Bildu and Geroa Bai, who are allegedly going to negotiate a government agreement with the PSN, to take measures for the Basque people, because, unlike what happens on other issues, it seems that both political forces have a necessary impetus to move forward.

And we remember, unfortunately, what happened in 2015 in the negotiation of the government agreement, where the Basque official remained, what has been the language policy of the Government of Navarra in the last eight years, where were those measures that they had to take in favor of the Basque in the next term. In short, it seems that betting too “passionately” for the Basque Country can lead to a loss of vote for these political forces, that the fact that in Nafarroa Garaia the Basque Country is official in Pamplona, Vitoria or Madrid is an indispensable condition for protecting any government. And although in that manifesto of congratulations they say “Despair is not an opportunity”, I was taken by disappointment, and I am convinced that in this march the Asturian will be official in Asturias, at the initiative of the PSOE, the Basque in Nafarroa Garaia. Asturian Sorionekuak!
