  • Companies like Glovo hire workers as self-employed, violating basic labor rights. LAB is fighting for this reality in Euskal Herria and called by the prosecution to testify, this Thursday there will be a trade union representation in the Catalan capital.

Planned to stabilize digital platforms such as Glovo, LAB believes that trade unionism has a "challenge". Last October, a press conference was held in which the need for this workers’ struggle was determined, setting the two objectives: firstly, to put an end to legal fraud and to recognise the employment relationship for others; and, secondly, to establish a regulatory framework for working conditions, fulfilling the right to collective bargaining.

Besides making this journey in Euskal Herria, this 2 February will send the message to Catalonia because they have called to testify in a process undertaken in the courts of Barcelona against a digital platform that uses "false self-employed".

At present, although workers are recognised as employed by final judgment or judgment, Glovo is obliged to leave the self-employed scheme and are consequently discharged from both general and self-employed schemes. In addition, the company does not recognize the fundamental rights: holidays, days… The union will regret the nature of "serious and continued crime" against the rights of workers and of "disdain" before administrative rulings and decisions.

Last fine of EUR 57 million

Glovo received a new fine of EUR 57 million at state level at the end of January. The Social Security Labour Inspectorate has first imposed a fine of EUR 32.9 million for not discharging 7,022 social security workers. Thus, they have also been paid for the lack of contributions of these workers, an additional EUR 19 million. To this must be added the second fine for 813 foreign workers without a work permit, with a fine of EUR 5.2 million. The company immediately announced its intention to appeal.

LAB has sent the distributors operating for platforms like Glovo the following message: "With the organization of workers, it is possible even to put a monster like Glovo in serious port. We appeal to continue to bring Euskal Herria riders closer to the LAB offices, because we are becoming more and more and that will make us unstoppable."
