They have been negotiating for almost two years and have not achieved results. That is why the ELA trade union has announced the call for a strike - with a 60% representation among workers in social security - and has warned that if they do not achieve the objectives, protests will be hardened. In total, there will be seventeen calls for strike action.
The ELA member, Idoia Elustondo, of the elderly centers and nursing homes of Gipuzkoa, believes that the Provincial Council should enter into negotiations and that a "clear commitment" should also be made to the Basque Government. In his view, this would mean an increase in recruitment, an improvement in working conditions and a better service.
ELA called the first strike in Donostia-San Sebastian at 11:30 hours in front of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. A demonstration will then take place until Kursaal in the bullring. LAB will make caravans and gatherings and UGT has joined the fight and has not ruled out starting mobilizations.
