The Council of Gipuzkoa imposes a fine of EUR 2,000 on neighbouring Mendaro requesting panels to mitigate the traffic noise in the A8
  • The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has imposed a fine of EUR 2,000 on Joseba Olazabal, which calls for the installation of acoustic panels in Mendaro to reduce traffic noise on the A8 motorway. The letter, dated 21 October, accuses Olazabal of risking road safety with his protests over sexual assault.

It is also instructed to remove the signs and "not to carry out activities that may distract users from the highway", according to the same source. Olazabal, who made the fine public, said that it will not be 'resigned' to it. “Since I started putting up posters, some 50 million cars have passed in front of our house and I have not caused any accidents. We vote for the authorities to improve our quality of life, and in the case of Mendaro, we are going to get worse. I also told the honourable Member that we are side effects and it became sweet!” he says in a statement released via social media. A number of citizens have shown their support and have shown their readiness to cooperate in the initiatives they take.

Two years ago, Olazabal received a request from the Provincial Council to refrain from engaging in "distracting" activities for highway users and to prevent placements.
