ELA says that the crisis generated by the pandemic has made clear two things; that the work of women in residences is an essential public service, and that a model that prioritizes economic benefit, “driving it to the limit”, leaves many deaths in the elderly.
The union has denounced that the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa "did not take any form of instruction", rejected its proposals for meetings and did not send any reply to its letters. They point out that it is time to value work in the care sector and that the priority should be “the quality of care that prioritizes people” and not the economic benefit.
The workers have left their mobilizations in the face of the emergency caused by COVID-19, as the priority was the users, “knowing that they would risk taking care of them”. However, the union does not rule out the resumption of the strike if the Provincial Council does not take a step forward in improving the conditions of the sector.
