Over the past eight months, Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon have been heavily attacked. Aggression has increased in recent weeks and tension is increasing, both in the number of actions and in the demonstrations on both sides. Israel has been increasingly attacking from the border of Lebanon in recent weeks, and concerns have spread about the emergence of a large-scale international conflict between the two forces.

Netanyahu has been near the border of Lebanon this week, meeting with military authorities. He points out that they will not remain “doing nothing” and that they are willing to take “tough action” against Hezbollah. This week the Israeli Government has approved an increase of 350,000 welds in the limit of the number of reservists in the context of the increase in tension in the north. 50,000 reservists have already been mobilized. Israeli Government spokesman David Mencer said that fighting in the north “is not a sustainable reality”, but that the Government will ensure the security of Israelis living near the Lebanese border. “It is in Hezbollah’s hands to decide whether it will be through diplomacy or through force.”

Hezbollah, for its part, points out that it does not seek to widen the conflict with Israel, but that if they are forced to wage war, they are prepared to fight. Sheikh Naim Qassem, the ruler of Hezbollah, warns that if the Zionists continue in the war against Lebanon, their response will be to provoke “massacre, destruction and displacement” in Israel. “If Israel wants to fight a total war, we are ready to do so.”

Eight months attacking

Since October 2023 there have been numerous attacks on both sides of the border between Lebanon and Israel. Hezbollah has demonstrated a great ability to create cracks in the Zionist defence system. The Israeli authorities have also shown “strangeness” with some of the attacks, as the Xiite militia has managed to hit the military base of the Zionists. According to Human Rights Watch, in recent months Israel has used white phosphorus to attack the areas of civilians in Lebanon. The NGO warns that Zionists have used this type of munitions that are internationally prohibited against at least seventeen peoples of Lebanon, five of them inhabited by civilians. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 173 people have been injured with white phosphorus.

According to Al Jazeera, Israel’s air strikes have killed 300 Hezbollah militiamen since 7 October and nearly 80 civilians. Attacks from Lebanon, according to the Israeli armed forces, have killed eighteen Zionist soldiers and ten civilians within the same period. However, according to various sources, the two parties have ensured that the conflict will not intensify. Hezbollah has the support of Iran and Israel, the consequences of a total war can be very serious at the international level.

Notification of EE.UU to Israel

The Biden Government has told Israel that the beginning of the war with Lebanon may push for intervention in Iran, and has said that with Lebanon “restricted war” or “small regional war” are not realistic options.

Biden said this week that “there are all the reasons” to think that the Netanyahu war is dragging on in order to remain in power. His disputes against him are open in the courts of Israel, in relation to the corruption cases and the security problems of 7 October. Many internal and external sources of the Israeli Government have expressed concern about Netanyahu ' s lack of strategy.

In addition, the most extreme government forces on the right of Netanyahu continue to press and call for more violent actions, and Netanyahu needs their support to be able to continue in government. The Ministers of Security and Finance, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Like the Smotrich, have called on the Prime Minister to take “immediate action” against Lebanon. Smotrich says they should “take the security line off Israeli lands and move south of Lebanon.” It has also defended the invasion of the Earth. He argues that its inhabitants and the militias of Hezbollah, on the other side of the Litani River, should occupy and displace the territory 30 kilometres north of the border.
