The Gernika Commission was set up in 1976 to prevent "the silence and passage of time decreed by the dictatorship" from leaving this episode "as an anecdote of history". Now, 45 years later, an audio-visual has been produced that gathers the testimonies and history of this trajectory.

The documentary will be released in October of this year, but coinciding with the anniversary of the Gernika bombing they wanted to offer a video-advance on the Youtube channel:

One more year, many activities

As the day of the bombing approaches, many events, conferences and statements have taken place throughout the week, and a programme of events has been organized on Monday to commemorate the 84th anniversary: At 15:45 hours a minute of silence has been observed in memory of the victims, listening as usual to the sound of the mermaid. The members of the Gernika Commission and the Lobak initiative will be responsible for launching these sirens in the towns of Astra and Pasialeko. Then, at dusk, there will be a walk with candles.

Solidarity has also reminded those who, following the current wars, are in difficult situations, such as the Kurdish people. And on the other hand, the Guernica to Gernika. The Gernika OroLeku platform recently released the song Gernika Bizirik by Jon Rementeria.

During the weekend, eleven pastry shops from all over the Basque Country have made a special version of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica painting, grouped in the newly created Federation of Basque Pastry Shops. Divided into fourteen parts, 500 kilos of chocolate have been used to make a work almost eight meters wide. This work of creation has aroused a great deal of expectation and, in addition to Euskal Herria, they have been asked to expose it already in other parts of Europe.
