Today the trikitilari laja is fired in Azkoitia
  • The well-known local trikitilari 'laja' Iñaki Garmendia died the day before yesterday in Hernani, and this afternoon will be the last to say goodbye to the well-known trikitilari of the town. The funeral will be held today, Monday, at 19:00 in the parish of Azkoitia. Several friends who join in the bosom of the trikitixa will greet the teacher laja with a touch of trikitixa and will head from the Tanatory to the church with their pans and sounds. Then, inside the church they will touch the fandango, and at the exit they will be fired with a kalejira forever from Laja.

Trikitilari Iñaki Garmendia 'laja' (Azkoitia, 1944-2019) died last Saturday, Day 12, in an accident in Azkoitia. Last Sunday he felt unwilling in Aristerrazu (Aia, Gipuzkoa), and after a week of hospitalization, last Saturday the decision was made to give his last sigh.

He was born in the Laja farmhouse and began to sound as a child. Along with the popular pandero Ramon Zubizarreta "Landakanda", they formed for many years the famous duo of trikitilaris Laja and Landakanda.Ha left their mark on the trikitixa world in Euskal Herria.

In June 2017 a warm tribute was paid to 'Laja' in the last pilgrimage of the season held in Aristerrazu. The organizers decided to recognize the trajectory of 'Laja' for years. In addition, it has been a reference trikitilari in Azkoitia, and an example of this was the launch of the Andramaixeta sucking along with 'Landakanda' in 2016. 'Laja' has spent days and nights dancing the citizens.

The Association of Trikitixa de Euskal Herria published in 2016 the book 'laja', trikitixaren zubia (the bridge of the trikitixa). The book is a biography of "Laja," written by Joxemari Iriondo.
