Aggression and genocide against the Palestinians is particularly serious in recent months. Israel has killed more than 18,000 Palestinians from 7 October to today. In this context, the Boikot, Divestment and Zigor campaign, driven by hundreds of Palestinian agents and from around the world, is gaining strength in responding to the situation. Meanwhile, Basque institutions continue to maintain contacts with Israeli institutions and businesses. These include the City Hall of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

In fact, the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz has contracted the company Kunak since 2022 the acquisition, commissioning and maintenance of air quality measuring equipment and equipment, with a budget of 13,500 euros. Kunak Technologies is the company of Orokoien (Navarra). Since 2022 he signed an agreement with the Israeli company Meteo Tech to be an official distributor of air monitoring tools in Israel. At the moment there are two of these devices running in Vitoria-Gasteiz. One of them is in the quay square.

It is not the only company that has contracted the public administration of Vitoria and that has commercial relations with Israel. The multinational Sacyr manages the sanitation and purification networks of the municipal waters of Vitoria and the Provincial Council of Álava. It has a contract with Vitoria of EUR 2,034,687 for two years. A branch of Sacyr has been implicated in the apartheid of water in Palestine.

More than 100 Palestinian agents launched the BDS campaign in 2005, including several human rights groups. The source of inspiration has been the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. It basically calls for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel. The aim is to put pressure on Israel to respect international law and to stop colonization and the apartheid regime. It is based on the principles of Palestinian freedom and justice. This campaign recently won a great victory: The well-known Puma brand has stopped supporting Israel’s football team by pressure. Various groups in the Basque Country have joined the boycott campaign and the Basque institutions and companies demand the breakdown of their relations with Israel.
