The evictions of companies and floods for the closure of factories remain non-stop in Euskal Herria in recent weeks, and on Wednesday a new one has been added to the list: Manufacturer of appliances SDA Factory from Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The Catalan company B&B Trends, owner of the plant, has announced that it has voluntarily brought the plant to the creditor competition, so it is in the process of closing. 55 workers would stay on the street.

Known in its day as Ufesa and with great weight in the household appliances industry of Álava, its former owner, BSH, who has just announced that he is going to lay off 650 people at the Esquiroz plant in Navarra, before being bought by B&B Trends in 2018. At that time, 240 workers were working, but in recent years they have been in crisis and conflict at work, and by the end of the year a temporary employment regulation dossier has been completed.

The workers took the floor about a month ago in the municipal plenary of Vitoria-Gasteiz to explain their situation and demand compliance with the agreement reached with the company last April, among other economic measures and guarantees.

"Greed has thrown it away."

LAB, for its part, has accused B&B Trends of bringing the plant to this situation: "A leading company, with almost 50 years of history, based in the territory, which has thrown away the greed of multinationals who are just looking to make money," he explained.

As he explained, the new owner has taken the products for manufacture in other workplaces and has dismantled the research and development unit of Fagor Household Appliances. In addition, the trade union has also denounced the way to announce closure by e-mail and on the eve of a meeting to extend the ere: "Communication is regrettable and miserable," he said.
