“A subpoena issued to us on March 20 has informed us that the space is in danger of eviction, although they have not yet set a date for it.” The food network Herrizoma, the housing network Vivir en el Barrio and the assembly of popular festivities Vieja Brava occupied the Korda space in June 2022, within the neighborhood’s festivities, and they have reported that the space is in danger of eviction.

The Korda space is owned by the municipal company 21 Ensanche. “In the Old Town and in Vitoria-Gasteiz there are many neighborhoods, buildings, flats and premises owned by the Ensanche and many of them are empty, many abandoned and in very poor condition”, the three agents denounce. When it was occupied in June 2022, the space had been closed and lost for some time. The floor and walls were renovated or a small kitchen was installed to allow its use. “We have been providing community and political use for the last three years, where we have held conferences, gymkhanas, workshops, assemblies, meetings, theatres, lunches, meetings and others, which have been used by many agents of the neighborhood.”

Herrizoma denounces that there are 130 empty premises in the Old Town, Viva and Zahara de la Vieja, and announces that they will “defend” Korda so that “the place recovered by the neighborhood does not return to the logic of the market, so that it continues to benefit the popular structures and the organized community of the neighborhood.” Dozens of neighbors took a group photo in front of the space to express their support for the project on Sunday afternoon.
