Strikes have begun in the cleaning sector in both Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. On Monday, the cleaning strikes of the buildings of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa began, affecting 80,000 people. The Provincial Council of Bizkaia, through the company Eulen, has contracted the cleaning service. As they have pointed out, the management does not want to adjust the workers’ pay to the increase in the CPI that is being registered.

According to the LAB trade union, at the last meeting held on 5 April the employers stated that they do not want to make any economic approach to the CPI. Workers have thus started a strike in the face of collective bargaining to demand that their agreements guarantee the Consumer Price Index (CPI). If they do not accept their requests, they will keep the strike until 7 May.

Last Monday, LAB reported that the Ertzaintza identified two plant workers, although it considered "positive" on the first day of strike.

At the beginning of the strike, the unions LAB, ELA and ESK have denounced the attitude of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. "Although it cannot participate in the collective bargaining of the agreement, arguing that cleaners are Eulen workers, it has become clear that they use all the instruments at their disposal to put pressure on workers," said LAB in reference to the Ertzaintza identifications. The union has also accused Eulen of being representing the strikers: "They're doing striker work, even though we know that's not legal," he says. Adido.

Bizkaia Cleaning Strike

In Bizkaia, strikes also began on Tuesday in the cleaning services of buildings and premises of the CAV. Wednesday will also be a strike day, and the next strike days will be announced in May, specifically on 10, 11 and 12 May.

The Bizkaia strikers have been demanding since November last year the improvement of their working conditions, and the main demand is to raise the salary to fifteen pages of 1,200 euros.Segun the ELA union, "as the employer is not on the negotiating table, the unions, representing the majority of the negotiating table, have seen no other way than to continue the mobilizations".

According to the ELA, LAB and ESK unions, today’s strike in Gipuzkoa is having massive follow-up over the last few hours. In order to give visibility to the strike, the collective Gora Garbikariak has held a lockdown from Tuesday to Wednesday at the Hika Ateneo.
