We live in a context in which anti-feminist and racist hate speech at the global level is on the rise. Far-right narratives are inserted throughout the world by
social networks and political agendas. Racism and anti-feminism have become two great discursive axes that adapt to local contexts. And in addition, the increasingly apparent precariousness fuels these speeches. We are living it right here in San Sebastian.
Anti-feminism defends the thought that women should have a dependent place in society and perpetuate the culture of violence and inequality; racism, with all its subtleties, is based on the belief that some races are more than others, on violence, on social exclusion and on the denial of fundamental rights. Certainly, an environment that creates a hostile environment for those who suffer this kind of hatred.
There are, however, positive experiences. Resistances with mobilization capacity that build community. We want to talk about this at the 7th Medicus Mundi Congress in Gipuzkoa. Meetings on fundamentalisms. In them, we will try to address the challenges we face. We will also know and share experiences and tools that are working in different parts of the world to deal with all this kind of violence. All this is on the road to a more just and egalitarian society, with the objective of collectivizing the struggle. For this reason, we invite all citizens to participate in these conferences to be held in the Magna Classroom of the Faculties of Psychology and HEFA I of the UPV/EHU in Donostia, during the mornings of 28 and 29 November.
"Against fundamentalism, because the essential thing is for people to sit on it."
Lurdes Fernandez Irisarri, NGO President Medicus Mundi Gipuzkoa
