Despite the obstacles, the Pirates of Donostia have made it clear today that they will continue to fight to organize the festivities of the Great Week of Donostia. Two years ago, on the Boulevard's newsstand, they denounced the fact that the Basque Government had made them pay fees and last year, on the occasion of the works of the dock, the members of the movement had to make changes in public spaces. This year, however, they have explained that the Basque Government has imposed on them the ban on concerts in the area of Flamenka, the main setting of the pirates, but “overcoming a lot of obstacles”, they have announced that they will return to Donostia in August.
“Without giving concrete reasons, the Basque Government has decided that there will be no more concerts in the Flamenka space and have forced us to completely reorganize the program and the festival, in a very short time,” they said. It is precisely the last few weeks that have been hard for pirates, who have been immersed in the design of a new space so that pirates can meet the deadlines necessary for the organization of the festivities. Finally, the main stage for the concerts will be located next to the Puerto Deportivo building, looking north, as they have done during the Carmen festivities in the Old Part.
So things, overcome all the difficulties, have been able to complete a comprehensive programme and reintroduce Aste Nagusia in time, but at the press conference they held in the morning a direct warning was given to the public: “The government wants the San Sebastian Pirates out of the pier.”
Be a pirate in San Sebastian de los corsarios!
For the motto of Aste Nagusia they spoke of “corsaries who were engaged in looting in the name and in favor of the regime”, and they stressed that these corsaries are still in Donostia, be it a pirate in Donostia! Today, the members of the movement screamed.
It is precisely the pirates who invite the citizens to "fight the corsaries that have been sold in exchange for money, to put on a black scarf and become pirates".
Programme with several new developments
The pirates have summarised that this year’s programme will continue along the same lines as in previous years, although they have also advanced that it will have several novelties. Among other contents, they have highlighted the Day of the Brotherhood of August 14 and the radio program 'Karramarro Uhartea' that will be broadcast during the festivities.
Throughout the day, different activities will be held: meals, charanges, games… In the evening, they will have a wide musical offer with three proposals: concerts, DJs and dinners musicated in the Plaza de la Trinidad. In this link you can see the performances of the main concert area of the pirates.
Regarding the approach, they have announced that the registration on the pirate website is open since today and that tickets for that day’s food are on sale in the bars Trikuharri (Antigua), Pandora (Gros) and Herria (Old Party). In addition, they have stressed that the day of the approach will have another novelty: for the first time, the most beautiful raft of the approach will be rewarded.
