In these times of climate emergency when packages and hygiene products become waste, the time has come to take a step forward. In addition, we are prepared for this. In Gipuzkoa there is a company called Birzitek that in the Goierri has the ability to recycle packages and hygiene products. We have technology and knowledge, and we also have raw materials, what are we waiting for?
In Gipuzkoa, packages and hygiene products account for about 20,000 tonnes of waste. These products account for 70% of the remainder left after proper waste separation. Taking the step could also lead to a global reference. Let us differentiate ourselves as referents.
The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has a recycling cluster within it. It consists of a set of companies related to recycling. In the middle, Birzitek. This cluster was created in 2016 with the objective of boosting R+D+i in its words and promoting models of incidence, reuse and recycling in waste policies.
"If we have idea, also technology and capacity, there is no lack of raw material and a differentiated collection is made. So why doesn't recycling packages and hygienic products get underway? "
To this we must add that in many municipalities the following products are collected separately: Sasieta (16 towns), Tolosaldea (4), Urola Erdia (1), San Markos (3) and Alto Deba (2)
Therefore, if we have an idea, also technology and capacity, there is no lack of raw material and a differentiated collection is made. So why doesn't recycling packages and hygienic products get underway?
This issue is of vital importance and we believe that the GHK (waste consortium) should assume the responsibility of leading and carrying out the process. Many citizens play well in waste separation and want to go further by recycling packages. It's a demand from society. This additional achievement that this service would offer is a stimulus for both Gipuzkoa and its citizens, a further step in the right direction. We call on GHK to initiate the immediate operation of this process.
