Ezkerra is committed to recognising Euskera in competitions for municipal public jobs in Tudela (Navarra). "The Ombudsman of Navarra deserves our full respect and consideration," the party said in a joint statement.
In May last year the City Council held a public call for the post of Deputy Inspector of the Municipal Police. Knowledge in English, Spanish or German had a value of five points. The knowledge of the Basque Country, on the contrary, is zero.
The representative of Administrazioa Euskaraz, Joseba Otano, came to the Ombudsman of Navarra, arguing that “knowledge of the Basque Country is valued less than knowledge of foreign languages”. Ararteko Francisco Javier Eneriz asked the mayor, Eneko Larrarte, not to value less the knowledge of the Basque than that of foreign languages.
Upon receiving the Ararteko's note, Larrarte responded that it was not mandatory to assess the knowledge of the Basque country.
Now, I-E has changed attitude. He stressed that he valued "all the official languages of Navarre" and stressed that the Basque "must be protected as the heritage of all Navarros". However, the party recalls that "Tudela is not in the Vascophony zone" and that "Castilian is the most widespread language in the country".
