- The Justice Commission of the Spanish Congress approved on Thursday the precedent of the euthanasia bill, to which 22 of its 36 members voted. Only the representatives of pp and Vox, respectively, have been shown against.
The text states that all persons suffering from a serious and incurable disease or a serious and chronic illness may apply for euthanasia. The text also provides for the possibility of carrying out the practice of Eustanasia at home and in health centers.
The bill presented by the PSOE obtained a parliamentary majority in the Congressional Justice Committee. Of the 36 vocals, 22 for and 14 against, he achieved the support of all parties except VOX and the project pp.El was approved this Thursday and after a long period of amendments, he will be submitted next week to the Congress of Deputies. Since it is an organic law, after its passage through the Senate, it must obtain at least 176 votes in favour for provisional approval in Congress.
PSOE, Podemos, Citizens, ERC, PNV, EH Bildu, More Country, CompromÃs and JxCat, among others, have been in favour of the law and have asked for their abstention. Pp and Vox voted "no" for "promoting the culture of exclusion and death" and for "being an exercise in social engineering".
