Woman making homeland. The book 100 urte Emakume Abertzale Batza was presented at the headquarters of the Gogoratuz Institute in Bilbao. In it, the Minister for Equality, Justice and Social Policies, Nerea Melgoda, announced that the Basque Government is developing a guide to incorporating the gender perspective in the recovery of historical memory.

Melgoña notes that “it is important” to recognize and value the role of women in history: “Only thus, by claiming the prominence and the essentiality of women in our common history and past, can we create an egalitarian future”.

On the other hand, he adds that the new generations need “referent women” and that the process of empowerment of women requires, in turn, “historical references”. Likewise, Melgoña stressed that “the path taken so far from academia, from institutions and from different researchers is reinforced”.

The book presented has been edited by the Sabino Arana Foundation and has been researched by the historian of the UPV/EHU Begoña Bilbao, Gurutze Ezkurdia and Karmele Pérez. The book gathers the trajectory of the political organization that united nationalist women since 1922.

The event was attended by representatives of the Basque Government, including Olatz Garamendi, Public Governance and Self-Government Counsellor, Gotzone Sagardui, Health Advisor and José Antonio Rodríguez Ranz, Vice-Advisor on Human Rights, Memory and Cooperation.
