The UPV/EHU professor Alberto López Basaguren has presented in the forum Tongues and rights critical opinions about Euskaldunization and its consequences. According to Iker Rioja Eldiario.es, 30% of young people are directly related to “school failure” because they promoted Basque as the main language in different areas. She also adds that Euskaldunization creates limitations in obtaining jobs for those who only know Spanish.
López Basaguren points out that teaching based on a false premise has been built, arguing that learning in a non-family language does not impair academic achievement: “They sold that the family language or the social environment was not important and that any child can learn from the beginning in a language other than his own, without undermining the learning process and with a benefit that dominates both languages.”
In addition to professor of the UPV/EHU, López Basaguren became famous for his participation as an expert in the reform of the Statute in the 2016/2020 term, on the proposal of the PSE-EE.
Juan Luis Ibarra returns to speak
The event took place in the House of Culture of Vitoria-Gasteiz and was organized by the Euskara denontzat/Por un euskera sin barrera and the Euskal Federalista group. The event was attended by the Vice-Minister for Linguistic Policy of the Basque Government, Lourdes Auzmendi, Patxi López and the former president of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country, Juan Luis Ibarra.
The Valle notes that the monitoring of the Basque measures has delegitimized justice and that the administrations cannot act illegally. However, he did not say anything about recent statements. The Valley stated last October that criticism of the Euskarafobas judgments was related to ETA and argued that it perceived a “strategy of socialization of suffering” and a “repercussion of the campaigns of judicial delegitimization”.
