The mayor of the UPN of the Egüés Valley says that the cultural offer in Euskera discriminates against Castellanoparlantes

EH Bildu del Valle de Egüés brought the matter to the last plenary of the year through Councilor Axier Mesanza. Mesanza was concerned that 70% of the Christmas programming was planned in Spanish and 30% in Basque, that is, two events in the latter language.

He also denounced that the acts in Basque were more expensive than in Spanish. Mesanza also criticized the imbalance with the Basque Country in the municipal agenda they have distributed in various contents and asked the municipal government to comply with the municipal ordinances to balance the situation.

At the time, the mayor of the Egüés Valley, Xuriñe Peña (UPN), warned that it is Euskaldun, but that acts in Basque discriminate against those who do not know Euskera. And it was expressed as follows: “That is, those who do not know Euskera cannot attend the events in Euskera because they do not understand them, but those we do in Spanish can attend both, those who know Euskera and those who do not know.”

After the disregard of the cleaning stairs by the former mayor of Pamplona, Cristina Ibarrola, the words of the Peña are also flying in the nets. This may be another of the knives that UPN is having in recent times, because it shows UPN’s will in the promotion of the Basque Country, and in fact, indirectly, it is saying that no event should be organized in the Basque Country, because that is exclusive to the Castilian speaking speakers.

The Egüés Valley is a municipality in the Merindad de Sangüesa, which borders Pamplona to the northeast of the city and covers many councils. After Tudela, it is currently the third municipality of Navarra (22.121). UPN has 6 councillors, EH Bildu 4, Viveguesbizi 3, PSN 3, Geroa Baik 2 and VXV popular candidatures, a PP and With You Navarra. Following the motion of censure in Pamplona it is among the municipalities that can be repeated, but no progress has yet been made in this direction.
