Last year we all heard the call of the Common Voice project, asking for voice recordings from many Basque citizens, among other reasons because the Vice-Ministry of Language Policy of the Basque Government promoted this initiative within the Gaitek programme. This campaign by the Basque Government was looking for a vocal technology capable of understanding Euskera with machines, in line with the objectives of the Common Voice project, and actually significantly increased the number of hours of recording. But where is the fruit of that popular initiative? What is voice technology in Basque? Where are we going?
Among other things, it will be discussed at the round table to be held at the Euskarabildua Day on this subject.
This will include Gorka Varela, head of Technology Transfer at Vicomtech; Jon Sánchez, member of the Aholab of the Hitz Linguistic Technology Centre at UPV/EHU; Xabier Ezpeleta, computer scientist at Tknika and Igor Leturia, head of Orai Speech Technologies. Jon Torner, ARGIA journalist, will be in charge of moderating the round table.
What is Euskarabildua?
It is a news conference that aims to bring together Euskera and technology, a space for reflection and dissemination for innovative initiatives that want to influence society, and that offers the possibility of promoting the knowledge and technological innovation applicable in Basque society and in Euskera.
Iametza, Argia and Ametzagaiña jointly organise these conferences since 2012. This year will be held on October 17 at the San Telmo Museum from 09:00 in the morning.
