The denouncing athlete says that his sister told the judge that she would do it in Basque, after she said "a mí me vais a hablar en Castellano".

The debate ended with the red card after the athlete told the judge that they had to speak at the end of the test. A complaint has been lodged with the Observatory for Linguistic Rights. The complaint is read in full below.

La Palabra de Irutxulo spoke with the Gipuzkoa Triathlon Federation, who denied that the athlete was expelled for speaking in Basque. "According to the Federation, the judge asked one of the two participants to speak Spanish because he did not understand Basque. This person, however, replied to the judge that he would speak in Basque, and in the ensuing discussion the tension rose for the moment.
