Speaking the first word in Basque, speaking in Basque to those who understand it and always speaking in Basque with Euskaldunes are some of the linguistic behaviors that they want to spread. The eleven ambassadors of Euskaraldia will encourage the citizens to change the behaviors mentioned in the language and to take steps forward. The Basque coordinator, Goiatz Urkijo, stressed that the people who will open Euskaraldia are “the key”.

The next edition of Euskaraldia will be held from 15 to 25 May 2025. One of the main tasks of the new edition is to “normalize linguistic behaviors that seem simple” and turn them into social norms. “Simple behaviors apparently, but still not broken,” Urkijo explained.

The eleven of Euskaraldia was presented this Thursday in a public hearing at the Bidebarrieta cultural center in Bilbao. From left to right; cook Eneko Atxa, mountain runner Oihana Azkorbebeitia, musician and dancer Aitor Bengoetxea, writer Lutxo Egia del Río, filmmaker Eneko Garcia (Albina Stardust), transvestite, journalist Ana Goihumorista, presenter

The coordinators of Euskaraldia affirm that Euskaraldia offers a context to change linguistic habits, but that it is “essential” to activate the citizenship that will take advantage of this context. That is why they presented the eleventh, and in that sense Goiatz Urkijo recalled in his appearance the old saying: “What is told to one, the eleven knows it.”
