Between July 1 and 31, 128 young people from the Basque Country will travel through the Basque Country on foot. In 31 stages they will exceed 700 kilometres.
From Maule to Getxo, through the Ways of Santiago that cross the seven territories. The expedition will travel over 35 towns and cities. This year’s tour also provides for a stop at the following points: in Duzuniz (Zuberoa); Amaiur, Lesaka and Zugarramurdi (Navarra); and in Kortezubi and Sukarrieta (Bizkaia).
128 young people will visit the sites and buildings declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, as well as many others that are representative of the natural assets and historical and cultural heritage of Euskal Herria (including Salinas de Añana de Pasaia, Albaola Itsas Kultur Faktoria, the Casa de Juntas de Gernika and the Bizkaia Bridge).
The jury composed of 20 representatives of Eusko Ikaskuntza-Sociedad de Estudios Vascos and the PuntuEUS Foundation has selected this year’s adventurers. These young people will be a representative sample of the different sociolinguistic realities of the Basque Country: 20 alaveses, 37 Biscayan, 37 Gipuzkoans, 7 labortans, 28 from Nafarroa Garaia and 1 from Nafarroa Beherea.
Along with the Jziquitas will go the ‘blue family’ during the adventure. This team of 30 people consists of monitors, doctors and nurses, coordinators, communication and logistics managers.
What is EuskarAventura?
EuskarAbentura is a walking expedition that leads young people between the ages of 16 and 17 to know among friends the geography, culture and Basque history, both of the seven territories of the Basque Country and of the diaspora, in the 2022 edition without members of the diaspora. The initiative is driven by the Euskaltzale non-profit association EuskarAbentura. After the first editions of 2018 and 2019, the pandemic prevented the 2020 edition and the 2021 edition was largely conditioned by the health emergency.

This year, however, EuskarAbentura has regained its original character. For a month, between 1 and 31 July, the young will travel to Euskal Herria with sleeping bag and mat, container, cubes and utensils for eating, neceser and clothing; in fronton, polysports, school rooms.
