The Mayor of Urruña, Filipe Aramendi, has signed an agreement with the Basque College for the development of the Basque service in the town. The College will subsidise for three years with EUR 30,000 each, which will allow the People’s House to hire an Euskera technician.
Kazeta.eus stressed that in Iparralde there are five and a half positions of Basque technicians: three in Biarritz, one and a half in Baiona, and one in Hendaia. But the environment adds that many initiatives are being developed to change the situation: 49 villages have signed the Local Minority Languages Xarta on 12 March, and in Ziburu they have set up an extra-municipal commission.
