“We continue to take steps to make Euskera’s adult education free.” This has been summarised by the director of Euskarabidea, Mikel Arrangi, the increase in the subsidies of the Government of Navarra. The councillor of the City of Ultzama, Izaskun Anduaga, has presented the aid for the next course, on 30 August. In total, the government will allocate EUR 956,000 more than last year.

In the call addressed to private individuals, EUR 300,000 will be allocated, EUR 56,000 more than last year. It is recalled that in the course 2020-2021 the minimum number of people cared for was 800, and in the course 2021-2022 it was 1,000 people. In addition, aid for Euskaltegis will be EUR 2.1 million, EUR 900,000 more than last year. Its objective is to guarantee the “right of citizens to know the Basque Country”.

Izaskun Anduaga, on behalf of the local authorities, has announced that Euskera’s learning is “almost free” in many cases, as with the aid of Euskarabidea up to 380 euros can be obtained, and thus the subsidies offered by many municipalities are compatible. These aids may be applied for between 1 October and 30 November on the portal www.euskaraikasi.nafarroa.eus or by calling 012.

“Euskara now” campaign

A new promotion campaign called “Euskara now” has also been launched. This is intended to encourage adults to Euskaldunize, “especially young people”. They explain that in this campaign they wanted to present Basque learning as an “attractive option”. The campaign will be seen in September on social networks, marquees, magazines, radios and on the Arrosadía campus of the UPNA. To this end, the Government has made an investment of EUR 54,000.
