The Basque Academy Euskaltzaindia joined the declaration of the Navarro Council of the Basque Country on September 16 and "urged" the government of MarĂa Chivite to amend the Foral Law of the Basque Country of 1986.

The Academy is part of this council, along with other agents, and in the note made public recalls that it is the advisory body of Euskarabidea. In addition, with regard to language, Euskaltzaindia is "official consultative institution", explains: "The Royal Academy of the Basque Language has among its functions the elaboration, investigation and regulation of the Basque Country, as well as the safeguarding of linguistic rights and the promotion of the use of the Basque Country with regard to the status of the Basque Country".

Thus, the Academy has ratified the declaration of 16 September, as it did at the meeting of the Navarro Council of the Basque Country, "to protect the linguistic rights of all Navarros and to make the Basque official throughout Navarre".
