The study carried out by Langune focuses on the study and learning of the trajectory of institutions and companies in the Basque sector in co-responsible conciliation. It has analysed data from 10 entities from different policy areas during the years 2018-2019. The authors Oihana Jausoro and Amaia Rodriguez have pointed out that “sensitivity to equality and the conscious feminist approach” have been the leaders in 70% of the organizations analyzed. This has meant the “reduction of vertical segregation and change in leadership styles” in different organizations.

On the other side of the coin, “despite the appearance of new male references in recent years”, the authors have highlighted that in the Basque sector the gender roles and stereotypes that occur in society in general are repeated, “obstacles that are rooted in society in the path of co-responsible conciliation”. It is set as an example that the majority of workers who reduce their working hours are women.

Permits and licences

The study concludes that measures have also been regulated and implemented in areas of work with difficulties of flexibility and conciliation (shops, distributors, redactions...). In general, “innovative and progressive” measures have been put in place in the Basque sector, such as “the number of hours to serve people in situations of cohabitation, marriage, private leave or dependency”.

“Pioneers” in different practices

The study was carried out jointly by the members of the association Langune, Emun and Elhuyar, with the support of the equality body of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. The study included ARGIA, Topagunea, Berria and the Ikastolas Confederation. “We are very pleased to know that the Basque sector is pioneering various co-responsible conciliation practices, which also puts the sector in value,” said Lohitzune Txarola, Langune’s manager.
