On Sunday, 16 June, in Bilbao, a massive show of solidarity with the children, adolescents and parents of Palestine took place. They call for the cessation of the Israeli genocide against Palestinian minors and announce a joint call for 20 June in all schools in Euskal Herria. They ask for the solidarity of the educational community and report that the trade unions Ikastolen Elkartea, Euskal Herriko Ikasleen Gurasoen Elkartea (EHIGE), ELA, LAB, Steilas, CCOO, CNT and ESK and various associations have joined the call.

Children and adolescents who have been murdered in Palestine have said that “they are also our children.” The fathers and mothers present state that the Palestinian fathers are their brothers and that they feel the pain suffered by the Palestinians “within the heart”. They say that they will not leave the Palestinian people alone and that “Israel is thinking of continuing the genocide, the next course will continue with the mobilisations.”

The dynamic, composed of the parent associations of the eighteen public schools in Bilbao and the three ikastolas, has focused especially on the children and adolescents affected by the genocide. They call for “ensuring that children are not subjected to war” and “justice against human rights violations”. According to various organisations working in the Middle East, more than 13,000 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip and according to Euro-Med Human Right Monitor data, more than 34,000 people have been killed in the occupied territories of Palestine since October, according to Hay Our Children report.

Harassment of children

In Gaza there are 335,000 children under the age of five at serious risk of starvation and some 17,000 children without parents. “The fact that the war is anti-child clearly shows Israel’s planned genocidal intent,” they point out. According to data released by Save The Children, “children’s education does not exist in Gaza and children do not have the ability to have a fundamental education,” Certainhaur ere badira explained. In Euskal Herria, more actions have been carried out in favor of Palestinian children before June 20.
