The Spanish state is the largest consumer of pesticides in the European Union
  • The report presented by Ekologistak Martxan contains very worrying results. In the Spanish State, 2,711 foods marketed have been analyzed and 34% contain pesticide residues, among which are prohibited substances. If only fruits and vegetables are taken into account, the agro-toxic stands at 41.39%.

For example, in a bell pepper marketed in the Spanish State, 33 traces of pesticides have been found, in one block 31, tomatoes, oranges, lemons, mandarins, more than twenty in each grape. Salton has witnessed the report, which highlights that 53 of the pesticides found are substances that are prohibited because of the risk they pose to humans and the environment.

The report pays particular attention to pesticides that are endocrine disruptors, chemicals produced by humans, that affect our hormonal system and that, according to various studies, can cause damage to the female and male reproductive system, as well as since the birth of malformations, diabetes and obesity, incidence on the immune system, autism, hyperactivity syndrome, cancer… 36 endocrine disruptors have been found in the foods analyzed.

According to data from Eurostat, the Spanish state is the country of the European Union that consumes the most pesticides, according to the report by Ekologistak Martxan. At the same time, it is one of the countries that performs the least analysis of food.
