According to the documentation collected by the SER Chain. the agreement has "basic gaps" and "does not comply with the requirements of the Law on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector".
The City of Vitoria-Gasteiz signed a collaboration agreement with the Euroleague basketball last Friday. The institution will contribute EUR 1 million, the Alavesa Government 1.5 million and the Basque Government 1.5 million. In total, the Basque administrations will allocate EUR 5 million to the Final Four, which will be held in Madrid this year. The money to be provided by the Euroleague has not been made public, and that is precisely one of the points in the two technical reports that have been made clear. The City Council reports also call for "greater clarity" in terms of sponsorship, advertising, merchandising or security, as well as in relation to the duration of the partnership agreement. For its part, the municipal government team has explained that the formula of the agreement "is absolutely justified" for its processing.
Last word: a Swiss court
The agreement between the Basque institutions and the Euroleague states that "it is governed and interpreted in accordance with Swiss law". Therefore, if there were any discrepancies between the parties, it would be the Court of Arbitration, based in Lugano, which would decide. The City Council report calls for this clause to be annulled and the laws of the Spanish State, the CAV and Álava to be applied.
