The group of naturalists and conservationists of Gipuzkoa, Naturkon, explained that in the report published in September (English version here) the European Union asks the Spanish State not to plant “flammable” tree species such as eucalyptus, pine.

According to Brussels, “unsustainable” forest techniques have deteriorated the ecosystem and are species that “contribute greatly to igniting and spreading fire.”

Europe has asked the Spanish State to invest more in forest management. According to Naturkone, the report coincides with the conclusions of the European Commissioner for the Environment, Karmenu Vella, on forest fires.
