In the summer of 2014 they occupied the Etxarri Gaztetxea space with the objective of "giving collective response to the unmet needs of the neighborhood". In November 2016, the City Council of Bilbao issued an order to close the gaztetxe, considering that this space "did not comply with the security measures".
However, in March 2018, the locals managed to "recover" the gaztetxe and, according to them, in the last two years they have managed to cope with the obstacles caused by unemployment: organising political programmes, uniting new people and making room for infrastructure. However, the eviction order was received at the beginning of last October, according to municipal sources.
For this reason, they have called a rally on Thursday at 20:00 in Rekalde Square, under the motto "join forces, defend the Gaztetxe Etxarri".
