Without a State there is no future
Josu Iraeta 2020ko abenduaren 10

I am sorry when you look at the future of Euskera so briefly. It is a pity, because time passes and do not just accept ownership of the state, which will guarantee the future of the Basque Country.

What does it take for history to put before its eyes all its harsh and dark paths? To say that your contributions so far are as small and as inadequate as they are nice? Here we leave you my serious summary of the story.

As Euskal Herria is the people of the Basque Country, we are not the ones born yesterday, and above all all the colonizations and negations, Herria has struggled and worked hard to survive to this day. The last few days testified to it.

Historically, the Empire and States have used two strategies to end the oppressed peoples: genocide and assimilation.

In the first case, the citizens were physically murdered and the peoples disappeared. That is the sad story of many peoples, that is what has happened to the indigenous people of America or Australia.

In the second, they left the citizens alive, but at the same time, they changed their identity to that of the citizens. Establishing the culture and language of the oppressive state. They act in this way with the Basque Country.

"By representing language to a people you enter the process of strangeness, and to the people who form the linguistic community, by changing their most fundamental element, membership also changes."

No one can deny that, by representing the language to a People, it enters a process of strangeness, and to the people who make up the linguistic community, by changing its most fundamental element, belonging changes, because through language it becomes part of another People.

This is how the process of identifying a large part of Basque citizenship in the Basque Country has emerged. Today, many Basques feel Spanish and many French.

This process of substitution for centuries has been conscious, intentionally driven, and has left its results, as well as hindering the integration of immigrants.

Language is therefore a strategic issue in all national projects. That is why the Basque Country is a strategic issue in our national project.

As the Basque Country is the people of the Basque Country, language is the main element of the identity of our nation. There is no Basque Country without Basque.

In short, the question of the Basque Country is historic. This situation is a consequence of the violence exerted by the states over the centuries and they intend to keep it “democratic” today.

Instead of making a historical reward, historical repression has been continued, resulting in a “neutrality” that guarantees the pre-eminence of two Castilian men.

Official language policy and its consequences are clear and undeniable. They are scarce, there is no doubt. That's why we're, how we're doing.

The implementation, thousands of attempts to live in Basque, deserves more than applause. Living between Euskaldunes, arrogated and joyful, only in Euskera, a couple of weeks, is wonderful, and also exciting, but the same festival shows us how many deficiencies we have. However, I would like to bring the situation of another era.

Joseba Arrangi, Ardanza Culture Advisor and about to create the “Newspaper”, opposed it by saying that we do not need political newspapers. He said that he, from his section, would take a free newspaper, every day, to every house. More than a sad truth. Fortunately, the head of today's culture section is stronger, but she's on the wrong track.

Happy holidays do not change the regrettable conditions. The current fragmenting legal situation has reinforced not only the Basque people, but also the functional, territorial and personal breakdown of Basque citizenship.

Throughout the world we know that in our beloved country we have many famous cooks, but unfortunately, and they are very well known, with just the lentil, we also have those who make fish soup.

So they have to be the ones who, measuring times and rhythms, have worked flexibly for almost half a century in the management of the Basque Country, to be happy. They say that Euskera is healthy and has a promising future.

I am not of the same opinion, even more so, I believe that those who say that, are revealing too much pride, the reflections there are. Similar to the dust of the stars, nice yes, but inaccessible.

That is why, in my opinion, independence and socialism are necessary for the survival of the Basque Country, because only through them will we be able to avoid the most serious risks of the language today, among others: the absence of a state and neo-liberalism.

In order to guarantee the future of the Basque Country, it is essential that the State grant independence and, in addition, the overcoming of neoliberalism through socialism, as well as the violation of such a deep-rooted tendency of uniformity.

In any case, the responsibility for maintaining the Basque language and making it the main language for the communication of Basque citizenship lies with all Basques, since, first of all, it is our universal contribution.

This responsibility links the entire Basque people, since the work for the Basque people is irreversible.

Language, in the face of the nation, unites citizens and helps them to become a single community. He is a member of the National Assembly but, at the same time, is a separator for those of other nations. Hence the nature of the firm sign of national identity. That is why we consider the Basque country as the main integrating tool of the Basque Country.

Without denying anyone's culture, for we are all Basque through the Basque Country. Therefore, without language, without Basque, there is no future.
