On 24 January, the trial took place against two activists from the anti-militarist group KEM in Bilbao for parodiing the dismantling of the Spanish Army headquarters in the Bilbaíno district of Irala. On December 18, 2021, as part of the #Botakuartela campaign, the entrepreneurs took a nonviolent action to denounce that the preparation of the war begins at the military headquarters Juan de Garay.

Despite the fact that the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested a penalty of 36 months and a fine of EUR 9,000, the Bilbao Court has decided to impose a fine of EUR 720 each, EUR 360. And it doesn't impose any prison sentence on them.

The #Botakuartela campaign started in 2021. Entrepreneurs demand that the 6,500 square meters of the military barracks be used to "improve the living conditions" of the people of the city: "War is a crime against humanity and, once again, as a consequence of the nuclear threat, it is a danger to life on the planet." The CEM denounces that the increase in military spending planned for 2023 places us in an "arms confrontation" that "removes resources to improve the lives" of the population and "increases the profits" of the arms industry.

Therefore, the Bilbaíno anti-militarist group has called the Irala neighborhood and the people living in Bilbao to mobilize "for peace and against war", coinciding with the denunciation of the Juan de Garay headquarters.
