Of the 38 Members of the European Parliament, 21 are Members who support the Basque Friendship Group and are called to vote. Parliamentarians have called for solutions in accordance with the law and the humanitarian bases of the resolution. In addition to Euskal Herria, the list of signatories includes MEPs from other countries, including: Germany, Italy, Ireland, Portugal and the Catalan countries.

Members have highlighted two resolutions which were adopted by the European Parliament and which were rejected by the EC. On the one hand, in 2006 the European institutions were asked to “actively participate in the promotion and support of the resolution process of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country”. On 5 October 2017, Parliament adopted a resolution against prison policy.

Although the policy of bringing prisoners closer together was adopted in the French State, there is no sign of this in the Spanish State. Currently, 205 Basque prisoners are outside Euskal Herria, and 184 live between 250 and 1,100 kilometres of their relatives. The PSE-EE Secretary General, Idoia Mendia, has stated that the approaches "will not take place in any block".
