Murcia, La Rioja, Valencia, Asturias or Extremadura, among others, have been the places where visits have been authorised. In fact, despite the seriousness of the situation of the health system, the Bioethics Committee of Spain pointed out at the beginning of the pandemic the need for human assistance from professionals.
There are communities that are stricter in terms of measures and in Murcia, where the patient can be reached, but in Extremadura, it is totally forbidden. The case of Madrid is ambiguous, as although the community has a protocol to visit serious patients in nursing homes, the health department has not indicated whether those affected by coronavirus are also included.
The association for a dignified death, the right to die with dignity, DMD, has underlined the importance of the implementation of a protocol of action before death. In fact, in communities where there is no protocol, greetings are carried out at the will of the health worker, in some cases it allows the members of the family, but in other cases the relatives have been informed of it after the patient's death.
DMD President Javier Velasco has described it as "cruel" that only people are killed. For this reason, he has urged the Autonomous Communities that have no protocol to create one, and to make recommendations for it, such as authorizing more than one member of the family in the case of families with more than one child.
