Several municipalities in Madrid have organised consultations this Sunday in which citizens are given the opportunity to choose between monarchy and republic. The pp, in addition to being against this proposal, has made "gestures of threat".

The pp of Madrid has described these consultations as "anti-law" and "mere incitement to hatred". They add that it is not legitimate for the public spaces of the municipalities – on the street – to carry out such consultations by the municipalities. The people have announced that they will take "measures" in this regard, as Public-Private has gathered.

In total, consultations will be held this Sunday in three districts of Madrid and in five municipalities of the autonomous community.

Monarchy or republic?

Franco reinstated the monarchy 43 years ago and since then the Bourbons have had the crown. According to a survey conducted by Podemos, 54% of the population of the Spanish State is in favour of voting in monarchy and, according to them, the option of the republic would be imposed. In addition, only 16% of the citizens of the Spanish state relate the monarchy to democracy.

It will not be the first interrogations on the monarchy, since this year consultations have been held in several places, also in Madrid. In the referendum in the Vallecas district, 7,240 citizens voted, of whom about 6,500 voted in favour of the republic, according to data provided by Europe Press.
