The Spanish Government announces that next week it will begin to process the pardons of Catalan political prisoners.
  • "To begin the processing of pardons is not to indulge. It would be good news, as it would come out of jail, where it should not be," said JxCAT Member Laura Borras, in statements to Europe Press.

It is precisely the Spanish Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo, who said at the monitoring session to the Spanish Government that the pardon is a question put by him.

Among those prosecuted by the procés of Catalonia, there are two requests for pardon. The pardon of former counsellor Dolors Bassa, sentenced to 12 years in prison, was claimed by the UGT trade union. That of former President of the Parlament, Carme Forcadell, was claimed by three other former presidents: Joan Rigol, Ernest Benach and Núria de Gispert. Forcadell has been sentenced to eleven and a half years in prison.

The pardon process can last between 4 and 6 months, according to Vilaweb. Mr JxCAT Member Albert Batet said that, to indulge in possible indulgences, the resolution of the political conflict involves recognizing the right to self-determination and amnesty. Marta Vilalta (ERC), for her part, assured that what the government announced is not "a gesture that responds to good will", but the process that marks the law.
