Presentation of the Barcelona Xnet project for the implementation of “democratic digitalisation” in schools at the Euskarabildua day
  • Xnet and Barcelona are the Institute for Democratic Digitalisation and Digital Rights as a reference platform for the defence of digital rights. In December 2020, a pilot project was presented for the implementation of “democratic digitalisation” in various educational institutions. The objective was for teachers and students not to depend on the software of large multinationals such as Google or Microsoft, since the use of the data that make these tools generates doubts and the demonstration in these systems generates “captive clients”.

The pilot took part in three schools in Barcelona and will now be extended to more schools. Simona Levi and Arnau Monterd, the promoter of the Xnet project, will make known the keys to this project in Euskarabildu.

Simona Levi is a playwright and Italian director, political entrepreneur, political strategist, culture manager, academic researcher, journalist and professor at Pompeu Fabra University. In 2017, Rolling Stone magazine chose Levi among the 25 people who are shaping the future. The Xnet project is part of the projects it has carried out, as it was one of the founders Levi.

Arnau Monterde is Director of Democratic Innovation at the Barcelona City Hall and Doctor of Information and Knowledge Society at the Oberta University of Catalonia. It is part of numerous programmes and projects on digital rights, free software, technological sovereignty and democratic innovation.

The Euskarabildua Day will be held on October 27 at the San Telmo Museum and is organized by ARGIA, together with the companies of the Iametza and Ametzagaiña group. Registration can be made via the website.
