Review of the past

This is not the first time that several Ertzaintza agents have been captured in drug trafficking. Journalist Ahoztar Zelaieta has given a lot of data on social media.

In June of last year, in the operation of cocaine hidden in the bejetal coal sacks, an ertzaina was arrested alongside a historic "bilbaíno drug trafficker". Most of the drugs found in the province of Castilla y León in Spain came through Mexican and Colombian posters whose objective was to bring them and sell them in the Basque Country.

In 2015, they arrested an ertzaina accused of leading a drug trafficking group. She was found with two kilos of cocaine.

In 2014, an ertzaina was arrested during the plant confiscation operation 900 marijuana. Two years earlier, in 2012, another ertzaina was arrested in the plant confiscation operation of 650 marijuana.

In 2008, accused of leading a drug trafficking network, they arrested another Ertzaina, who was also captured by two kilos of cocaine. In the same year, an ex-ertzaina was arrested in front of a group selling drugs at nightclubs. He was caught a kilo and a half of cocaine and a half a kilo of speed.

In 2006, two Ertzainas were arrested on charges of belonging to a drug trafficking network, one of which was the head of the anti-drugs unit. In this operation the highest number of speed has been detected so far: 95 kilos stolen from a gang of drug traffickers.

In 1998, another Ertzaina was arrested at the head of an international drug trafficking gang. 21 kilos of cocaine, 12,900 ecstasy pills and 700 doses of LSD were detected.

In the mid-1990s, several Ertzainas were prosecuted at the Vitoria Court, accusing drug traffickers of committing crimes. And in the early '90s, in the Guardia Civil Noah's Ark Operation, two Ertzainas joined a drug trafficking network.

In 1988, three Ertzaines were arrested for belonging to a group of drug traffickers and three kilograms of cocaine were captured.
