The Errigora initiative, dedicated to the promotion of Euskera and agriculture in the area of the Ager de Navarra, launched in July a collection of 15,000 hectares to deal with fires. This, and to prevent future disasters. Thanks to the contributions of associations, municipalities and individuals from the Basque Country, Errigorri has earned 85,000 euros. It will create green firewalls and allocate its money to the promotion of extensive livestock farming.

The fires in June caused the greatest damage in Navarre all the time, and Errigorri intends to work not to repeat. The proceeds will be invested in Ujué and San Martín Unx. In Unx, for example, fires burned 95 per cent of the land. To this end, they have defined four lines of action: on the one hand, the construction of a new vial to connect the entrance of the village from Olite to the Sanper.En second place, a leisure space oriented to the Boyeral.En third place, the planting of new vineyards in front of the houses. And fourthly, to help the young cattle farmer of the locality and to attract new goat farmers.

In Ujué, for its part, the cleaning of the Antzandieta ravine and the recovery of Romanesque sources and bridges, the agreements with the vocational training schools for the creation of jobs through the elaboration of agricultural, agroecological and agroforestry products, and the opening of the road from the urban area to the Uxue Park have been realized.

"Earth, fire, water, people"

In July the campaign was launched under the slogan “Earth, fire, water, people” and it was the Queen herself who put the first 10,000 euros. The rest have been taken up by contributions.

To move on to the initiatives with the money obtained, the technical team has taken the proposals and made the criteria and decisions. They formed the Bureau with the Fire Fighters, Forest Guards, Primary Sector Unions and Presidents of the Municipalities and Councils of Navarra.

However, the initiative is a “first impulse” in the fight against fires. Subsequently, Errigorri hopes to bring together other actors and institutions that can continue the projects presented and the new ones.
