Boris Johnson appeared tonight, 23 March, after being pressured by Tories and Labour, who have denied any attempt. The first case of swine flu was detected in the United Kingdom on 31 January, killing 335 people. The epidemic follows an evolution similar to that in Italy, but with a delay of two weeks.
Johnson has argued that so far mobility is not limited in order for most of society to go through evil and develop immunity to it. The scientific community did not welcome their proposal, as they have gathered in an open letter signed by 240 scientists. Later, The Guardian published that following that path, the expansion of the coronavirus would extend for another year and reach 80% of the population.
The measures have been stepped up to the point where schools were closed on 18 March and two days later the Prime Minister ordered the closure of restaurants, gyms, bars and cinemas. Johnson said: "If we do not make a great effort as a country to curb the pinnacle of this virus, there will be no health system in the world that can cope with it," he added.
